Summer Shows

Luckily the major networks don’t offer much in quality new shows over the summer, (I need time for warm weather outdoor activities) but the one I have been enjoying is Traveler on ABC, Wednesdays at 10 pm.

I tried watching Kyle XY, now that it is back on ABC Friday nights, but I’ve missed too much while it aired on ABC Family. I was unaware new episodes had continued on ABC Family, and am a bit disappointed because I did enjoy the show. Another irritation with the major networks, giving up on shows too quick or moving them without enough advertisement.

Fox is showing new episodes of their drama Standoff on Friday nights at 9 pm. This is a show I enjoyed when it first aired in the fall of 2006. Of course the pilot episode left much to be desired, luckily I give a show more of a chance than just the first episode.

Of course cable channels have a wealth of offerings in the off season of regular television.

TNT has The Closer, an awesome show, need I say more? (Don’t worry I will at a later time.) A new show Heartland, a medical show revolving around organ donation follows The Closer on Monday nights beginning at 9 pm.

USA has brought back The 4400 and The Dead Zone, both favorites of mine, and a new show Burn Notice. I haven’t watched Burn Notice yet, but I’m looking forward to it.

Last but certainly not least, the Sci-fi Channel always has a great collection of shows. Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis, have all ready aired their season, the first ended the series. I haven’t finished the shows yet, so I will have much to say later. I am also watching the new series, Painkiller Jane, I like the police procedural and this one has kept my interest with its enjoyable cast of characters and the science fiction element that has our good guys chasing not your run of the mill bad guys.

Ghost Hunters, not to be confused with Ghost Whisperer on CBS, is a great documentary on Sci-fi.

I will be discussing each of these shows in future posts as well as touching on some of the new offerings coming up in the fall.

Intro

I am an admitted TV junkie, which brings me to the reason for this blog. This is where I can express my opinions, frustrations and joys of the television world. I look forward to two issues of TV Guide, The Fall Preview and Returning Favorites. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t spend my life sitting in front of the television. TV is my guilty pleasure, my escape from reality. I record most all of the shows/movies I watch on TV. With the odd schedules and responsibilities it is impossible to sit down every night and watch uninterrupted, so I have two VCR’s, (I had three, but one died, need to get another before the new fall season starts) and I record my shows. The way I figure it I can watch more television that way since I get to fast forward through the commercials.

When do I watch? While I do my domestic duties and hobbies or late at night if I can’t sleep. Sometimes I get behind a week or so, don’t be surprised if I am not up to date with my thoughts and opinions.

What will you find here if you decide to read? I watch most hour long shows, some movies and the occasional obscure item. What won’t you find? No half hour comedies or reality shows. The comedies have their purpose and many enjoy them, but I have three greyhounds, a husband, and well our extended family could be a sitcom, (wasn’t that a reality show once?) regardless, my life has enough comedy.

As for reality shows, I used to watch a few, but then they all bled together. A mixture of chosen personalities thrown together to create conflict and act like adolescents, I don’t need that kind of mind numbing escape. I have a couple of childish adolescents masquerading as adults in my neighborhood, that’s enough reality for me, it occasionally adds to the comedy as well.

Regardless, you’ll get my personal opinions, my frustrations with the major networks and some insight to some great programming. Feel free to share your thoughts.
